The Convention on Biological Diversity (1992) states that Biological diversity - often shortened simply to 'biodiversity' means 'the variability among living organisms from all sources including, inter alia, terrestrial, marine and other aquatic ecosystems and the ecological complexes of which they are part; this includes diversity within species, between species and of ecosystems.

Lend Lease Retail & Communities UK is aware of the dramatic losses in biodiversity and ecosystem integrity especially through the latter half of the twentieth century and recognises that the protection and enhancement of biodiversity is a key component of the approach required to improve the sustainability of its development projects and retail asset portfolio. To this end, Lend Lease is committed to halting and reversing the loss of biodiversity at all geographical scales and securing net biodiversity enhancements through the development process.
